Self Tie as a Gift

Practice wrapping yourself in rope as a gift to others!

In this unique self-tie class, @redselfties (any pronouns) will share some tips and tricks for tying yourself up for other people. Whether it’s to be objectified as a work of art, to be tortured with impact or electro, or to be restrained and helpless, self-tie can be a wonderful service to offer to a partner.

We’ll begin with a discussion of motivations for service, and the ways that rope can be incorporated into it. Next, we’ll go through some technical tips and tricks for restraining yourself, and for giving up power to a partner with less knowledge of rope than you, and try them out. Finally, we’ll practice negotiating self tie as service, and touch on some common pitfalls to avoid.

The focus of this class is hard skills: specifically, strategies for tying yourself in ways that other people can then utilize for themselves. The class is accessible to anyone who has taken Intro to Self Tie. We recommend these rope classes for developing your hard skills and/or your soft skills in self tie.

Self tying is the focus of this class, so partnered tying won’t be supported.

Prerequisites: Intro to Self Tie or equivalent

Tickets are sold per person. Tickets are available on a sliding scale to promote inclusivity and accessibility. Please choose the ticket price that makes this event accessible to you. All ticket types provide the same access to the event.

Required equipment: Safety shears; a piece of cloth to use as a blindfold; 4–6 pieces of rope (available from Probe if you do not have your own).

Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and at ease. We recommend opting for clothing that allows freedom of movement and flexibility. Additionally, bring along any specific equipment you may require for your personal comfort during the class.

A Probe membership is required to take this class. Doors will open 15 minutes before the start of class.

Red or @redselfties (any pronouns) has been, well, self-tying since she picked up a rope. Self-tie is a core part of his rope practice, from performances to self-scenes to using his body as a centerpiece for his art projects. Red loves sharing her passion for self-tie through instruction, skill-sharing, and mentoring, and she’s thrilled to be able to continue to do so at Probe.
