Practical Deviance

Practical conversations leading to clearer, more compatible kink practices

In-person kink and BDSM spaces are a playground for shared debauchery — but how can we recognize which other deviants share our particular brands of perversion?

The flavours of deviance that suit us best with others can feel sharp, rich and deep every time we indulge, whether or not we know them well already. They can also sour in everyone’s mouth when we find out we’ve been talking at cross-purposes. Compatibility makes kink and BDSM so much more fulfilling — so let’s talk about how to recognize and cultivate it.

In this discussion-based workshop, @redselfties will offer conversational tools for staying on the same page as our play and power-exchange partners. We’ll discuss seeing eye-to-eye on:

  • Kink: Activities, play, scenes, labbing…

  • BDSM: Roles, identity, dynamics, power, control…

  • Consent: Negotiation, violation, incident…

  • Risk: Informed risk, edge play, personal responsibility…

For each topic, redselfties will provide some groundwork, offer some tools for overcoming miscommunications, invite feedback, then give participants a chance to try it out for themselves.

This workshop does not require a membership. Participation has no minimum cost, tickets are pay what you can.

Doors will open 15 minutes before the start of the event.

@redselfties has been playing with rope and impact for three years, though they’ve had a taste for power exchange and emotional masochism for far longer. He loves to refine his negotiation skills, whether it’s before scenes with play partners from both sides of the slash, while running a consent and negotiation table at Probe’s Open Houses, or by offering an impact bottom’s perspective during Applied Consent in Impact classes. Red believes that negotiation should be fun, while also making both people feel safe and affirmed. She’s deeply grateful to instructors and play partners of hers who’ve led by their example.
