Intro to Fireplay
A hands-on class focused on safety, control and practical technique for playing with fire
Curious about Fireplay but unsure where to begin? Or want to improve your safety practices, confidence and technical control?
Join us for an educational, hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of Fireplay, designed for beginners and developing players who want a deeper understanding of flame safety, anatomy, fuel behavior and practical scene control. Because building confidence with fire starts with understanding it.
Topics we will cover:
Fire safety equipment & fuel
Risks of fireplay
Flame control, extinguishing and accident prevention
Heat mapping and body zones
Emotional grounding and aftercare
To build confidence, respect, and control around open flame, attendees will have opportunities throughout the workshop to gain hands-on experience with fire. Participants will learn how to light and extinguish fire wands, practice controlled container ignition and extinguishing, and explore smothering techniques and heat awareness. Through guided flame application fundamentals, attendees will build comfort with proximity, pacing, and the sensation of heat against the skin.
This is a partnered class. All attendees will have the opportunity to practice the techniques demonstrated throughout the workshop, with opportunities to switch roles during the hands-on portions.
Requirements:
Hair tied back and protected
Non-synthetic undergarments strongly recommended (cotton preferred)
Respect for safety protocols and instructional direction
Please Note:
This is an educational safety-focused class. Fireplay carries inherent risk, including burns and accidental ignition. Attendees are expected to approach the class with maturity, patience and respect for the seriousness of working with flame.
All materials for fire safety and practice will be provided. We will have wands prepared for attendees to use for the duration of class. Information will be provided on where you can purchase your own materials.
This class requires a partner. Tickets are sold per person. Tickets are available on a sliding scale to promote inclusivity and accessibility. Please choose the ticket price that makes this event accessible to you. All ticket types provide the same access to the event.
This workshop is open to members only. If you don’t have your membership yet, you can sign up online or come by to see the space and sign up in person. A temporary membership is also available for 24 hours for $10 at the door.
Doors will open 30 minutes before the start of the class and doors will close 20 minutes after the start of class.
