Navigating Relational Conflict with Empathy and Communication

In every relationship, rupture is an inevitable part of the journey. This class by Miel aims to destigmatize the notion that conflict signifies the end of a relationship. We’ll focus on constructive repair, distinguishing it from situations where abuse is present—where repair simply isn’t applicable.

Repair can be challenging, often hindered by our emotional triggers and perspectives. When entrenched in our feelings, we risk losing sight of our partner’s experience. Our attachment styles may activate our nervous systems, reawakening past traumas and leading to projection onto others. 

By centering ourselves, we can cultivate empathy, understanding, and compassion, reconnecting with our shared humanity and viewing mistakes as growth opportunities.

As we navigate the process of repair, we'll evaluate our proximity to those involved. Are they creating space for our feelings? Do we wish to deepen our connection or reevaluate our closeness?

Throughout this engaging class, we’re reminded that everyone has their own lens and that there is no absolute truth. This understanding makes empathy essential for building bridges and enhancing connections.

You’ll be invited to learn through reflection, share what feels comfortable, and engage in meaningful discussions. Miel will guide you through a grounding mindfulness exercise to promote deeper self-exploration and internal growth.

Doors will open 15 minutes before the start of the class and will close 20 minutes after the start of class.

Miel

Miel (they/them) is the President and CEO of Probe Ottawa. In addition, they are a certified Usui Reiki Master and spiritual guide who offers alternative therapy for people seeking alignment. Miel’s empathetic nature and passion for helping community members on their journeys has inspired them to create opportunities for folks to nurture deeper connections, internal growth, and radical self love.

As a firm believer in the decolonization and disruption of social norms, Miel has faith in people’s ability to reconnect with their authentic selves. They facilitate this excavation of buried truths by helping people shed the narratives imposed upon them and embrace what they uncover.
