Practical Negotiation: Power Exchange

Lay the foundations of lasting power-exchange dynamics!

Power exchange is a relationship style that feels right for so many people — but it can also feel hard to actually put into practice through negotiation. Where do you even begin? How can you tell if a dynamic is working well for everyone? Is it even possible to practice negotiating for power exchange in a lower-stakes setting?

@redselfties and @LadyFreyAnna believe that it is. In Practical Negotiation: Power Exchange, they’ll guide you through a series of discussion based exercises to help you build and maintain the kinds of power-exchange dynamics that stretch outside of a scene. They’ll introduce negotiation tools for you to use in your initial and ongoing power-exchange negotiations, then provide opportunities for you to try them out in a low-stakes setting. They’ll cover the following topics:

• Foundational Goals

• SPEAR: A Power-Exchange Toolkit (Scope, Play, Expressions, Alignment, Repair)

This workshop does not require a membership. Tickets are available on a sliding scale to promote inclusivity and accessibility. Please choose the ticket price that makes this event accessible to you. All ticket types provide the same access to the event.

Please note doors will open 15 minutes before the start of class and doors will close 20 minutes after the start of class.

This workshop does not require a partner. We’ll be doing mock negotiations only, so be ready to practice negotiating with the people around you!

@redselfties has been playing with rope and impact for three years, though they’ve had a taste for power exchange and emotional masochism for far longer. He loves to refine his negotiation skills, whether it’s before scenes with play partners from both sides of the slash, while running a consent and negotiation table at Probe’s Open Houses, or by offering an impact bottom’s perspective during Applied Consent in Impact classes. Red believes that negotiation should be fun, while also making both people feel safe and affirmed. She’s deeply grateful to instructors and play partners of hers who’ve led by their example.

@LadyFreyAnna (she/her) is a lifestyle dominant who’s been an active member of the Ottawa community since 2014. She’s known for her dynamic and creative impact play style, Florentine flogging and her extensive impact toy collection.

She’s been a regular feature at several explos and open house events since 2018. There, she can be found running her impact station, introducing attendees to the wide world of impact play, both giving or receiving. She creates a fun, welcoming and informative atmosphere that encourages participation and fosters a better understanding of safe, sane and consensual impact play.

She became an impact educator in 2022. In her classes, open labs and workshops, she guides participants through various activities, providing an interactive, hands on approach to learning safety in impact play and having fun with it. She makes sure that each participant progresses in their impact learning journey, refining and expanding their skills with their hands, floggers, canes, paddles etc.

In her hands, just about anything has the potential to be an impact toy.
