Frequently asked questions

Q: Why the age limit?

A: PO: TNG was founded because we noticed that many younger folks would attend an all-ages polyam event once, and then never come back. Not because the community was unwelcoming, but because the membership skewed closer to their parents' age than their own. It can be difficult for some folks to discuss their love life with someone who lacks the same social context as they do, so we decided to form an intentional community for the younger demographic in the same vein as other TNG groups.

Q: I'm under 36 but my partner is not, can I bring them?

A: No, PO: TNG events are explicitly only ages 18-35. If you would like a space to socialize with a partner outside of our age restrictions we recommend attending Poly Ottawa events, as it is all ages.

Q: Can I date here?

A: While many of our members have met partners through our events, it is not for dating or hooking up. We focus on community and support first and foremost; any relationships are just a great bonus. If you are treating the event like a meat market, you will have a bad time.

Q: Can I use Probe's equipment?

A: Any specialized adult equipment is not to be used at our events, it is strictly a social and not a play party. There are plenty of amenities like a kitchen or board games that are available to use during this time :)

Q: How accessible is the location?

A: Probe offers a low sensory/quiet room for those who become overstimulated. The venue is located on the 4th floor via elevator so those using mobility aids (such as walkers, wheelchairs, etc.) have access to the majority of the space. The bathroom is also wheelchair accessible.

Q: What's the dress code?

A: Casual. While Probe hosts adult events/play parties, please do not wear kink/BDSM gear to this event. It'll get awkward real quick.

Q: How can I pay?

A: You can buy a ticket through Eventbrite for the ease of digital payment (please note there is an additional fee of $2.51 through Eventbrite that is non-refundable) or you can pay $10 cash at the door.

Q: Are there food/drinks?

A: Food is not available for purchase but you may bring your own or snacks to share. PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY NUT PRODUCTS. Probe's kitchen offers some refreshments which are available in the fridge. They (and we) ask that you put a buck or two in the labeled container to help them keep supply in stock.

Q: I'm here but can't find the entrance?

A: Head to the alley on the left side of the building at 41 York St and find the last door on the right. Take the elevator to reach the 4th floor.
