About the event
Probe Ottawa and Miss Diagnosis are proud to team up once again to bring you another out of this world event: BEYOND BARRIERS
Beyond Barriers is a masked, COVID-conscious social event showcasing the incredible talents of local disabled artists in a unique, welcoming space. Meet like-minded individuals and forge new connections in an environment designed for comfort and accessibility.
With low lighting, lower volume, and a scent-free space you can relax and enjoy the show. There will be plenty of fidget toys and activities to go along with the show. With accessible gender-neutral washrooms, mandatory consent policies, and a dedicated quiet room, this is not your typical drag or variety show—it’s something truly special.
Masks are required, and high-quality masks will be available on-site (though we encourage you to bring your own). To promote distancing, ticket sales will be limited.
No membership required.
The Lineup
Your Hosts
Miss Diagnosis (he/him): Miss Diagnosis is a local drag and burlesque sensation turned producer. He aims to hold space for folks who usually don’t recieve the space and recognition they deserve and he hopes Beyond Barriers will help with this
Olive OIl (they/them): Olive oil is gender fluid hippy. They are a thembo (non-binary bimbo). Their hope with drag is to spread joy, and embrace their authentic self. "Olive Oil: Serving up joy, empowerment, and a fierce blend of queerness—one fabulous performance at a time!"
Your Performers
Boy Vey (he/they): Boy Vey is a trans, fat, wheelchair-using disabled drag and burlesque performer, who has been gracing stages big and small since 2019. He is the founder of the global Disability Drag Collective, and works tirelessly to make space for disabled performers (like himself) in our city and beyond!
Fairy Mech (fae/he): If a fairy fell out of a history book and into a wheelchair what would fae look like? Well you’re about to find out!
Beyond Barriers is happy to say that we pay every performer a guaranteed amount, however tips are still highly encouraged as all the performers put so much into these numbers. For ease, tip jars for each performer will be available. Bring those $5 bills!! Miss Diagnosis will also have a square reader for credit/debit tips— to be split among all performers.
Tickets are available on a sliding scale to promote inclusivity and accessibility. We offer limited “supported” and "sustain" tickets at a lower price for community members who might otherwise be unable to attend. Please choose the ticket price that makes this event accessible to you. If you’d like to support event accessibility, consider purchasing a "generous" or “benevolent” ticket, which helps subsidize lower-price options. All ticket types provide the same access to the event.
